An Alcohol / Drug Substance Abuse Course is required by Oklahoma law for certain offenses. These offenses include DUI, DWI and alcohol or other drug-related charges. This course fulfills requirements for your completed alcohol and drug assessment (reinstatement/revocation) or drug charge assessment (attorney or court ordered).
When you begin the course, you will be given an Interactive Journal. As you read through the course material, you will reflect on the circumstances of your charges. You will also contemplate your alcohol and / other drug usage and write your answers in your journal. You will then make a strategy to successfully move forward with your life. The more thoughtful and reflective you are during the course, the more beneficial it will be to you.
The topics we cover in the course include:
Law and consequences
Alcohol / other drugs and their effects
Patterns of use
Personal change plan
Laws and consequences
During the first topic of the course, we will discuss the charges that led to your arrest. We will also discuss the legal and financial consequences you could face as a result of your arrest. Lastly, you will reflect on other personal losses you have experienced as a result of the actions that led you here.
Alcohol / other drugs and their effects
Next, we will discuss the factors that influence how drugs affect you. This includes both physical and emotional factors. We take an in-depth look into how consuming these substances leads to serious consequences for us and those we cross paths with. We also go over myths about drug and alcohol use. This will help you recognize and stop destructive behaviors in your life.
Patterns of use
The next two sections of the course are very important and personalized. The Patterns of Use section gives you an opportunity to deeply analyze the reasons behind your alcohol and drug usage. It will also help you identify those that influence your usage. We discuss the ripple effect your usage has on your life, your friends, family, work and community.
Personal change plan
During the last section of the course, we help you create a plan of action to make positive change in your life. We will help you visualize challenging situations that will make change difficult. We will also help you strategize how to react in these situations and who you can reach out to when you may be tempted to revert back to negative patterns of behavior.
